The Start
Quick note: I created Adrift for a Gameboy themed game jam. I just recently found itch.io and when I saw all the game jams, I knew that I had to participate. With only 1 week to create a game I put in a lot of late nights reading documentation, designing sprites, watching tutorial videos online. I have never used GB Studio or Aesprite so a lot of my time was spent learning those two programs.
The game itself is designed to be a puzzle solving RPG. This means that it is very story driven and to progress in this story, you must complete puzzles or speak with other npcs. The style has reminded me of the days when I first started playing video games like Pokémon. So, for me, creating this game brought such a warm feeling to me and it really pushed me to work harder. I wanted this game to feel like the games that I used to play as a kid.
It took a lot of time to develop the story and decide which direction to take it. I consulted a colleague about it, and he gave me tons of wonderful ideas. I have so much more to add so please look out for updates.
Thank you,
GG
