Learning a lot

I created this game for the "My First Game Jam" . Here's a link to the submissions if you're interested in seeing a lot of fun new developers: https://itch.io/jam/my-first-game-jam-summer-2019/entries

This was my first game that I created in Game Maker Studio 2. In about two weeks to complete a game there was that I needed to learn. Everything from  understanding how to navigate in GMS2 to writing my own scrips. I watched a ton of tutorial videos on You Tube as well as diving into the documentation and forum posts. There were a lot of late nights and long hours thing about how I wanted the game to function.

I learned a lot about GML.I knew that I didn't want to create a game that utilized the drag and drop feature in GMS2. The reason why I wanted to use GML is because I wanted to challenge myself to learn the language and I know that I had more freedom to create a more customizable game.

While learning this new programming language I was exposed to a lot of concepts and syntax that I never knew before. I knew that I couldn't learn everything in just 2 weeks but this game jam was a perfect opportunity to challenge myself and see how much I could learn in the set amount of time. It was an experience that I'm thankful for. I'm looking to work more on the game and add a lot more!

Coming in the future:

One thing that I'm wanting to update because I put it on the back burner was the art. The art that is currently in use is only temporary and will be updated in the future to fit a theme of robots attacking. I want the art to convey this theme because right now it just doesn't.

Also coming soon: More dynamic enemies, power ups, more levels, music, different weapons that deal different damage, and more level design.

Thank you for reading this short posts. Take some time to play the game if you haven't already and let me know what you think. Please follow me as I'll be creating more games in the future.
